This is a unique opportunity to join our local nonprofit health agency as we fight lung disease in all its forms and work with our communities to protect lung health. As part of the Breathe California of the Bay Area’s (BCBA) efforts to protect communities from the harmful effects of tobacco, we are currently looking for an anti-tobacco health education intern to assist the us in engaging in various advocacy efforts to influence local tobacco control attitudes and policy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Anti-Tobacco Education and Advocacy program team in developing new advocacy strategies
- Outreach to community and institutional stakeholders, schools, local youth-serving agencies, and community events to increase awareness and garner support
- Conduct and gather opinion surveys regarding tobacco control
- Become informed about the latest research regarding tobacco control including flavored tobacco products and marijuana
- Provide presentations and testimony (with support) to community partners, stakeholders and policy makers in order to gain support and increase awareness
- Create social media material to inform and gain support
- Conduct community and youth trainings regarding policy advocacy
Qualifications:
- Enthusiastic about public health and tobacco control policy
- Interest in experiencing community outreach and advocacy
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working with diverse populations
- Bilingual, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, a plus but not required
