Breathe California of the Bay Area (BCBA) is a non-profit agency that has been combating lung disease since 1911. Our mission is to fight lung disease in all its forms and to work with our community to promote lung health. The Tuberculosis Prevention Program targets vulnerable and under-represented populations of Santa Clara County. This program provides health education about TB prevention issues at several community centers. Qualified interns will gain health education experience while providing disease prevention services to vulnerable populations.

Duties/ responsibilities: 

  • Review and update TB prevention presentation and/or handouts as needed
  • Promote and conduct TB presentations and events at community, adult education and other centers
  • Recruit volunteers to assist with the TB Prevention Program
  • Coordinate and assist with training volunteers of the TB Prevention Program
  • Outreach to sites and at community events
  • Coordinate scheduling for TB prevention events, such as the National TB Day in March
  • Create list of scheduled TB events and write outcome reports
  • Data entry/database organization of TB program
  • Assist with other programs as needed
  • Interest in environmental health 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Non-smoker 
  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate student program

Qualifications: 

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate in public health, health sciences, or related area preferred
  • Communicate well with others, during presentations, and in an office environment
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Must be able to travel for health education presentations and other health services we offer in the community
  • Non-smoker

Hours:

This internship is unpaid. School credit is available.
