Breathe California of the Bay Area (BCBA) is a non-profit agency that has been combating lung disease since 1911. Our mission is to fight lung disease in all its forms and to work with our community to protect lung health. The Senior Health & Wellness program targets the under-represented senior populations of San Jose and Northern Santa Clara County. This program provides health education about lung disease and age-specific health issues at over 20 senior centers. Lung health screenings, smoking cessation, breathing exercises and indoor air quality assessments are provided to seniors at no cost. Qualified interns will gain health education experience while serving a quickly growing and disadvantaged population.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Present health topics at senior centers
- Conduct lung-health screenings, including clean indoor air quality home assessments, tobacco cessation, and distributing free respiratory equipment
- Outreach to sites and coordinate scheduling for health events
- Assist team members and be open to new projects
- Data entry/database organization
- Basic office duties
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in an undergraduate/master’s program in public health, health sciences, or related area
- Communicate well with seniors, during presentations, and in an office environment
- Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Must be able to travel for health education presentations and other health services we offer in the senior community
- Non-smoker
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework in public health, health sciences, or related area
- Have your own car
