E-Bay Awards Champion a Charity Grant to Breathe California!
On November 6th, the eBay Foundation awarded a $2500 Champion a Charity grant to Breathe California. The grant will support the agency's "Seniors Breathe Easy" project, a widespread effort to help seniors combat lung disease issues. The project includes a wide array of health education programs including: Better Breathers Club support groups for lung disease patients - an overwhelming majority of whom are seniors; smoking cessation classes for seniors; the agency's respiratory therapy equipment donation/provision program; community workshops and lectures for seniors; and the publication of education materials on lung health topics facing seniors.
The grant was made possible through the efforts of Eric Warfel, an eBay employee who "championed" funding the Breathe California's projects. Through the eBay Foundation's Champion a Charity program, employees like Eric are encouraged to become involved with and advocate for non-profit organizations that work to improve the quality of life enjoyed by local residents. To receive funding through this competitive program, an agency must first be recommended by an eBay employee. It is then evaluated by a committee of eBay employees who make the final decision on which agencies to fund.
Breathe California would like to thank Eric for his commitment to helping local seniors breathe easier and his continued involvement with our agency. We would also like to thank the eBay Foundation for generously supporting Eric and the agency in our efforts to fight lung disease in all of its forms.
