Smoke-Free Parks Policy Proposal Introduced!

In honor of World Tobacco Free Day, on May 31st, Breathe California, the Coalition Against Teen Tobacco and other local health advocates gathered at San Jose’s city hall, where they highlighted the need for greater tobacco control efforts and introduced a proposal to make all 152 of San Jose’s city parks smoke-free. The agency was joined by Vice-Mayor Dave Cortese and Councilmember Madison Nguyen (pictured left), who introduced a proposal to the city's Rules Committee to prohibit smoking in city parks. Learn more about the World Tobacco Free Day event and the agency’s latest efforts to ban smoking in San Jose parks.  Or, if you’re interested in joining our smoke-free parks campaign, contact Program Director Dennis Achá at (408) 998-5865 or dennis@lungsrus.org.

Agency Presents its 2007 Clean Air Awards to 9 Local Innovators at 17th Annual Luncheon

Clean Air LuncheonContinuing a 17-year tradition, Breathe California presented its 2007 Clean Air Awards to nine local clean air leaders on May 31st at San Francisco’s Carnelian Room. The prestigious awards honor those in the business, governmental, educational and non-profit sectors that have made important contributions to fighting air pollution. Recognizing that California is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of warmer temperatures and climate change, Breathe California dedicated this year’s awards to the innovative approaches being taken to combat global warming. Help us Cover all California Children

Breathe California is proud to announce its support of Covering California’s Children, a United Way campaign to ensure all children in the state have health insurance. Ensuring all kids have comprehensive, reliable coverage is a reform that is long overdue and needs to be addressed immediately. Even one or two years without healthcare coverage can have life-long implications for a child, as well as a life’s worth of increased costs on the entire system. With legislation soon to be considered, we need your help to make this reform a reality. To learn how you can become involved, contact Dave Low at (408) 998-5865 or by e-mailing david@lungsrus.org. Or to learn more about the drive to cover all California children, visit http://www.covercaliforniaskids.org. Together we can build a healthier tomorrow for all California kids!

To ensure you receive the Breathe Free every month, please make sure the e-mail address breathe@reply.bronto.com is added to your list of approved e-mail senders.
