2008 Welcomes New Lung Health
Laws
 With
the New Year upon us, Breathe California is happy to celebrate the
introduction of several new state laws. As of January
1st, it became illegal to smoke in cars carrying minors,
where secondhand smoke can be 10 times more dangerous than in a
home. Also taking effect is the Healthy Heart and Lung Act, which
has stiffened penalties for commercial diesel vehicles that are
caught idling (unnecessarily spewing more pollution into the air).
In addition, tobacco companies are now prohibited from giving away
coupons, gift certificates, gift-cards and other similar offers in
California and must verify a recipient’s age when engaging in
non-sale distribution of tobacco products by mail.
