“I really liked camp because it taught me a lot about my asthma. At the camp I learned how to breathe better when I run. Now I can run farther without getting tired. Before the camp I would wheeze at night and it was hard to sleep. Now I sleep better.”

Breathe California Awarded
IBM’s ¡Tradúcelo Ahora! Grant

Breathe California is proud to announce that it has been chosen as one of 60 groups nationwide to participate in IBM’s ¡Tradúcelo Ahora! (Translate Now!) program. As the only local recipient, Breathe California will help the community access IBM’s innovative web-based software which can automatically translate web pages and emails between English and Spanish.

“Especially in an area as diverse as ours,it is unfortunate that language barriers can prevent individuals from utilizing the internet’s countless resources,” said Margo Sidener, President & CEO of Breathe California. “We are excited to partner with IBM to help more local residents gain access to the internet and the wealth of information and resources it contains.”

¡Tradúcelo Ahora! offers Spanish-speakers the opportunity to access the large volume of English-language websites and e-mails in their native language. From the ¡Tradúcelo Ahora! webpage, registered users can visit any website on the internet, which the software automatically translates to Spanish. The software can also translate Spanish websites into English. Furthermore, registered users are able to send an e-mail in their native language and have the recipient receive a copy translated into the other language.

”The internet has made it such that a tremendous amount of information is literally at the public’s fingertips,” continued Sidener. “¡Tradúcelo Ahora! broadens access this information, which we hope will help more people learn about and improve their own personal health.

Breathe California is currently registering local residents in person at its 1469 Park Avenue office in San Jose. Staff will walk you through the registration process and offer a short demonstration on how to translate web pages and emails. Once registered, individuals will also be given a User Name and Password, which they can use to utilize the ¡Tradúcelo Ahora! program from any computer. The program is free to anyone who registers for the program. To make an appointment, call (408) 998-5865.
