Secondhand Smoke Helpline
(408) 999-0500

The Secondhand Smoke Helpline - (408) 999-0500 - helps people who are affected by secondhand smoke through education and advocacy. Secondhand smoke is a dangerous carcinogen that is especially dangerous to children and people suffering from lung disease. People who are suffering from health effects of secondhand smoke exposure can call the line to learn about their rights. People can also call to complain about bars and restaurants that are not complying with non-smoking laws.

What are the benefits of calling?

Individuals who call the helpline are better equipped to confront problems they are encountering due to secondhand smoke. Callers learn about their rights and are offered suggestions on different avenues available to resolve their problems. As part of this service, Breathe California offers to contact landlords or managers who are not complying with secondhand smoke laws so that the caller can remain anonymous.

The Secondhand Smoke Helpline is staffed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At other times, you can leave a message on the answering machine and a helpline staff person will return your call during normal hours.
