Community Connections
Community Connections is a state-funded project that advocates for greater protecting from secondhand smoke. It is estimated that 54,000 people die every year in the United States as a result of secondhand smoke and that secondhand smoke may be responsible for the onset of 8,000 to 26,000 new cases of asthma each year. Because of the public health risk, Community Connections is working with local community groups to establish smoke-free public place, colleges and multi-unit dwellings.
Breathe California utilizes education and advocacy to achieve these goals. By informing local residents about the dangers of secondhand smoke, coordinating the efforts of committed local groups and advocating for new smoke-free policies, Breathe California seeks to bring communities together to protect public health.
