Master Home Enviromentalist Program
Trainers Needed!!!
In
the past several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated
that indoor air may be more polluted than outdoor air. Other research indicates
that many people spend about 90 percent of their time indoors. Thus, for
many people, the risks to health may be greater from exposure to pollutants
indoors than outdoors.
The Master Home Environmentalist® (MHE) program at Breathe California can help you find out! You can ask for a trained MHE to come to your home to do a free home assessment, or you can become an MHE yourself by participating in our training and donating some time to provide the service in your community.
Our Mission:
Our goal is to promote lung health by increasing awareness of home environmental
pollutants and encouraging action to reduce exposure through volunteer-based
education and action.
Our Values and Principles:
- A vision of the home as a safe, healthy environment for all family members and specifically for the children.
- Residents have the right to know of hazards in their home and can, through their own actions, make changes in their home to prevent illness.
- A personalized, hands-on approach is effective in motivating people to improve their home environment.
We have many volunteers who conduct home assessments and other outreach activities, and are involved in every aspect of program design, delivery and evaluation. Our trainers are exceptional in their knowledge, enthusiasm, and commitment to our mission. The majority of our trainers have a science or health related background and may work for agencies such as the EPA, Santa Clara or San Benito County Public Health, San Jose State University, community groups and businesses.
The MHE program has evolved over the last eleven years thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, staff, planning team, trainers, and fundraisers. With their generous support we will be able to hold regularly scheduled volunteer trainings.
